Arguments That Go Somewhere
Conflict isn't the problem. Repeating the same conflict is.

Name the actual complaint
'You never help' is unanswerable. 'I'm doing the school run and dinner four nights a week and I'm exhausted' can be solved. Specificity is what turns a fight into a negotiation.
Complaints are about behaviour. Criticism is about character, and it escalates every time.
Manage the physiology
Once heart rates climb, nobody is listening. Agree in advance on a pause word, take twenty minutes, then return — the pause only works if returning is guaranteed.
Avoid starting significant conversations when either of you is hungry, exhausted, or already late.
End with a change, not a winner
Close every difficult conversation with one concrete adjustment either person will make. Without that, the same argument returns on schedule.
Repair matters more than perfection. Saying 'that came out harsher than I meant' resolves more than being right does.
